Weaving the Past into Modern Living: Design for New Residences in Windsor

Design is underway for 192 new apartment units in Windsor, CT, as part of an expansion to an existing residential community.

edmSTUDIO’s proposed design prioritizes both community and convenience, offering comfortable, modern living spaces alongside inviting communal areas.

Each of the four buildings will feature a variety of shared amenities, including a lounge, a party room with a bar and projection capabilities, a fully equipped gym, a yoga studio, and a makerspace for creative activities.

Recognizing the growing demand for flexible workspaces, the project will also include work-from-home accommodations such as conference rooms and desk areas designed for remote professionals. Practical amenities like bicycle storage and pet wash stations ensure residents’ everyday needs are met.

Drawing on inspiration from Windsor’s agricultural heritage—particularly its history of tobacco farming—the design incorporates elements of weaving, draping, and layering.

These references to the site’s past are woven into a contemporary aesthetic, creating a unique blend of historical context and modern functionality.
