
lona Prosol, a team leader and Senior Vice President at Salas O’Brien, brings over 30 years of design and management expertise to every project. Known for her strong focus on sustainability, she collaborates with architects and consultants to develop tailored solutions for each client. Her commitment to advancing the design and construction industry is reflected in her roles on the boards of the Connecticut Green Building Council (now BuildGreenCT) and the Connecticut Architecture Foundation, as well as her service on the State of Connecticut Codes and Standards Committee.
As a longtime member of BuildGreenCT’s board, Ilona has played a pivotal role in promoting sustainability both within Connecticut and beyond. Her involvement in sustainable projects predates her board tenure, including pioneering work in decarbonization, electrification, Net-Zero goals, and the Living Building Challenge. She encourages clients to go beyond standard requirements, emphasizing the importance of early discussions on sustainability goals to maximize project success.
Ilona has contributed to numerous award-winning projects across New England, including the John W. Olver Design Building at UMass Amherst (pictured right), which received the 2020 AIA COTE Award and is the largest cross-laminated timber (CLT) academic building in the United States, and the Mary M. Hooker Environmental Sciences Magnet School in Hartford, Connecticut’s first-ever LEED Platinum school. Among her current favorites are the Williams College Davis Center, which is nearing completion and pursuing Living Building Challenge Petal Certification, and the Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, which is targeting LEED v4 Certification with innovative features like CLT slabs and radiant floors.
With over 50+ LEED-certified projects in her portfolio, Ilona’s dedication to sustainability continues to make an impact.
